Manchester United keeping an eye on Declan Rice’s status at West Ham

According to The Athletic, Manchester United is keeping a watchful eye on West Ham United midfielder Declan Rice this summer.

However, the report suggests that United is unlikely to engage in a bidding war with Arsenal for the English international.

Rice, who is considered one of the top holding midfielders in the Premier League, is expected to seek a new challenge in the upcoming transfer window.

Arsenal has already been linked with the player, and now it is revealed that the Red Devils are also monitoring the 24-year-old’s situation.

Despite their interest, United does not plan to make a formal approach for Rice due to his hefty price tag and the manager’s priorities lying elsewhere.

Erik Ten Hag is primarily focused on acquiring a marquee striker and a creative midfielder. The club is looking to sign two players before the start of the pre-season. One of the targets mentioned in the report is Chelsea’s Mason Mount.

After the 2021/22 season, United had concerns about the defensive midfield position, but they addressed this issue with the signing of Real Madrid star midfielder Casemiro.

The Brazilian has been an excellent addition to the team, delivering impressive defensive performances while also contributing with crucial goals and assists.

Casemiro’s presence has solidified his position as the number six in the squad, and it is unlikely that United will actively pursue another holding midfielder unless Scott McTominay departs from the club.

Even in the event of McTominay’s departure, United may not consider Rice as an option. While the English midfielder would be a fantastic signing, he would likely expect assurances of a spot in the starting XI.
