Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United are competing for the free-agent services of Inter Milan center-back Stefan de Vrij next summer.
The 30-year-old is wanted by both Manchester United and Tottenham, according to a report from CalcioMercato, and Inter are worried about losing him for free.
Over the past five or six years, the 59-cap Holland international has consistently been one of the greatest central defenders in Europe. In light of this, it is not surprising that there is such a rush for his signature.
Jose Mourinho had a long-standing desire to sign De Vrij to Old Trafford. Erik ten Hag appears to be planning to do the same. After this season, the Dutchman’s contract with the San Siro will expire, and United may then attempt to sign him as a free agent. In order to avoid losing him for nothing, Inter will make an effort to persuade him to sign a new contract before then.
De Vrij might find it difficult to resist the appeal of Premier League football, though. Our opinion is that he would be a terrific addition to Ten Hag’s squad at Old Trafford.
The center-back has made 12 Serie A appearances for Inter this season, averaging one tackle, two interceptions, and three clearances per match. His pass completion percentage is 88%, and he averages 2.8 victories in aerial duels every game.
Both in the air and on the ground, he is an extremely powerful defender. Ten Hag’s defensive options would undoubtedly be enhanced by the Inter star.
