According to French journalist Ignazio Genuardi, Manchester United is keen to sign Monaco star defender Axel Disasi this summer.
Currently, Lisandro Martinez, Raphael Varane, Harry Maguire, and Victor Lindelof are the only centre-back options available in the squad. However, Martinez and Varane are without a doubt Erik Ten Hag’s first choices when they are fit and available for selection.
We won’t be shocked if Ten Hag looks to sign another centre-back in the upcoming transfer window, and Genuardi believes that the Red Devils are strongly interested in Disasi.
West Ham United has been monitoring the Frenchman in recent months, but the 25-year-old is aiming to sign for a team with a higher reputation.
During his tenure at Reims, the 25-year-old was rumoured to be moving to the Premier League, but he ultimately signed with Monaco for €13 million in 2020.
Disasi recently played for the French national team at the World Cup and has since grown into one of the best centre-backs in the French top division.
In our opinion, United should take him into account as Varane’s backup given that he likes the right centre-back position.
He has made one tackle and three clearances on average per league game this season. Additionally, he has won an incredible 75% of his aerial battles.
The Frenchman has the skills to flourish in the Premier League, but he won’t come cheaply, with Monaco reportedly placing a €50 million value on him.
The club’s first objective this summer is a marquee striker, but should Maguire or Lindelof go, United will probably spend money on a centre-back.
