Manchester United keeping tabs on Barcelona left-back Alejandro Balde

According to the Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo, Manchester United may make a surprise move for Barcelona left-back Alejandro Balde.

The Spanish star has been doing well and is expected to succeed Jordi Alba in the long run. Balde, who graduated from Barcelona’s illustrious La Masia academy, has lived up to his potential this season after receiving numerous opportunities from manager Xavi Hernandez.

The 19-year-old hasn’t displayed any signs of exhaustion, and other teams have taken notice of his performances on the left side of Barcelona’s defence. His contract is valid until 2024. However, Barcelona is eager to sign him to a long-term contract given how high his status has already risen.

Contract negotiations have already taken place with the Blaugrana. But the offer cannot go beyond La Liga rules given their current financial situation. At Camp Nou, his breakout season had already established him as a star, and the Barcelona prodigy had won praise from his boss.

The star, though, recently expressed his love for Manchester United and his wish to join them if he were to leave Barcelona in the unforeseen future. Erik ten Hag is not showing any interest in adding a left-back as a top priority.

Tyrell Malacia, Luke Shaw’s backup player, was already signed by the Dutch coach. When necessary, Brandon Williams can also make helpful contributions.

Next summer, Shaw’s current contract will also expire. However, the player’s deal with United includes a one-year extension option. He might play at Old Trafford for at least another season, given his recent form. Ten Hag prefers a right-back with greater experience, and the Spanish international is short on it. He was also selected for Spain’s World Cup team due to his recent form. La Roja, however, lost the shootout in their Round of 16 tie with Morocco.

The Barcelona star may agree to a new five-year contract. But the astronomical release clause will make it difficult for United to sign him this summer.
