Manchester United keeping tabs on Real Sociedad star Martin Zubimendi

According to the Spanish publication, Mundo Deportivo, Manchester United are monitoring Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi ahead of the upcoming transfer window.

The Red Devils have no dirt of options when it comes to defensive midfielders. The club is blessed with Real Madrid star Casemiro. Erik ten Hag also has Fred and Scott McTominay at his disposal.

Although these two players haven’t been in their best shape, the Dutch manager has utilized them very well. However, the Spanish reports claim that United are in the hunt for a young defensive midfielder.

Zubimendi is one of the players on Ten Hag’s transfer wish list for the upcoming transfer season. The Red Devils are keeping an eye on the issue involving the 23-year-old defensive midfielder, who recently signed a new contract with the La Liga club.

The youth talent has played every minute of Sociedad’s league campaign, recording one goal and two assists. He was also a member of the team that defeated United in the Europa League while maintaining a clean sheet. Prior to joining the first squad in 2020, Zubimendi progressed through the team’s academy and has since made 108 appearances.

His commitment to the team and a reported £60 million buyout clause will make it much harder for United to complete the deal.

However, Ten Hag’s side needs to strengthen other positions in the squad and will ignore the possibility of signing Zubimendi for now.

The board will be alert in the transfer market as they want to rope in a new right-back to compete with Diogo Dalot as well as a new striker to replace Cristiano Ronaldo.
