Manchester United FC are reportedly looking for a midfielder this summer transfer window and are now linked to he Spanish midfielder Thiago. Thiago Alcantara plays for Bayern Munich, and with one year left in his contract, is set to move elsewhere. The Red Devils are linked with Thiago but will face a stern challenge from Liverpool, for his signature.
Thiago is a product of the fabled La Masia academy of Barcelona and has played three seasons for them, before moving to Germany. The Spanish midfielder is very versatile and can play anywhere in the midfield and has been brilliant for Bayern Munich. Thiago is a sleek midfielder, almost like Pogba, and can do the dirty work also if needed of him.
The 29-year old Spaniard is a mainstay in the Bayern team and the Spain national side in the center of the park. He is touted as one of the most technically gifted players in the world and has certainly produced the goods always. Thiago has been very consistent and successful at Bayern Munich, but now wants a new challenge in his career.
The midfielder has only a year left in his contract at Bayern and is determined to move to the Premier League. Liverpool looked to be favourites to secure his signature this summer, but are reportedly unable to pay his transfer fees. Liverpool don’t want to give any more than £20m whereas Bayern Munich are demanding £32m for one of their most consistent performers.
Thiago was earlier linked to United in 2013 and wanted a move to the Old Trafford. But David Moyes didn’t want the midfield maestro’s services thus Thiago moved to Bayern Munich and shined in Bavaria. The Spaniard has appeared 231 times for the Bavaria-based club and has won seven consecutive Bundesliga titles with them.
The transfer fee demanded by Bayern shouldn’t be a problem for United as they look to strengthen their midfield. With a lack of creativity and depth in the United midfield, Woodward might be tempted to get Thiago to Old Trafford. Liverpool and United are battling it out for Thiago’s signature this season and it will be interesting to see who he chooses.
