The race for the top four in the Premier League this season widens up, as Chelsea and Leicester City drop points. Manchester United, Chelsea, Leicester and Wolverhampton are all now in contention for the third and fourth spot in the Premier League. Only three points separate four teams, as the race for European spots widens up in the Premier League.
Leicester City and Chelsea have dropped points against Everton and West Ham respectively, which has given Manchester United and Wolves hope. United are targeting a third-place finish in the Premier League and Chelsea and Leicester have helped the Red Devils’ cause. Wolves are also level on points with United but have a tougher run-in till the end of the season.
United face relegation-battling Bournemouth in the weekend and have a chance to move to third place in the Premier League. The Red Devils are on a 15-match unbeaten streak and will be the favourites to win against the Cherries. United have been free-scoring and have scored six goals in their last two Premier League games without conceding themselves.
Wolves face Arsenal next, who might seem to be fragile but can come back to their best with a victory. Mikel Arteta’s trust in Arsenal’s youngsters is paying him rewards as the Gunners defeated Norwich yesterday. Wolves will be a different test though and the Londoners will need to be at their best to get the points.
Leicester City have been consistently poor since the turn of the year and haven’t won a match since the restart. They seem to have lost their spark and will be soon losing their third spot in the Premier League. The foxes have just managed to get one goal after the restart and found themselves tasting defeat against Everton yesterday.
Chelsea, who were playing very well until yesterday, lost to fellow Londoners and relegation battling West Ham. Their defeat was a shock but came as a pleasing surprise for Manchester United and Wolves. Chelsea, in their remaining fixtures, face Wolves and Liverpool, which makes it difficult for them to win all their upcoming matches.
The Premier League is getting heated up as the battle for the top four intensifies. Manchester United look well placed to take over the third spot in the league and will need to be consistent to keep it.
