Manchester United looking to raid Sporting again to sign Matheus Nunes

According to Portuguese publication Correio de Manha, Manchester United is interested in signing Matheus Nunes from Sporting Lisbon.

Erik ten Hag has made central midfield a priority for the summer transfer window, with two arrivals planned in that position.

Following the departure of Paul Pogba, the Red Devils began to analyze the Portuguese midfielder, but despite the fact that both Manchester teams are claimed to have a good relationship with Sporting, City is considered to have the upper hand at the moment.

Sporting would consider offers of €50 million in addition to taking a player on loan, despite the 23-year-release old’s release clause. Nunes’ contract is rumoured to include a €60 million ($51.3 million) release clause.

The 23-year-old is an excellent dribbler who also has great passing skills. Last season, he spent the majority of his time as a left central midfielder in a 3-4-2-1 formation.

He has seven caps for Portugal and was awarded the best midfielder in the Primeira Liga for the months of October and November this season.

Following Sporting’s Champions League round of 16 clashes earlier this year, he was dubbed “one of the finest players in the world” by City manager Pep Guardiola.

Bruno Fernandes’ performances since joining United from Sporting in January 2020 have no doubt inspired them, with the 27-year-old netting 50 goals and setting up another 39 in his first 126 appearances for the club. Manchester United will be hoping to sign another elite player from Lisbon in Nunes.
