Manchester United make Premier League comeback history

On Sunday night, Manchester United defeated Everton despite giving up the opening goal and in the process, they set up an incredible record.

Prior to hosting United at Goodison Park, Everton had allowed the fewest goals (seven) in the Premier League. However, the match promised to be a thriller as Frank Lampard’s team has been improving lately.

Despite some pressure from the hosts in the closing minutes of the game, United ultimately overcame Everton 2-1. Although the three points brought the Red Devils up to fifth place in the standings, the outcome was more significant since it made United the comeback kings in the league. As reported by the club’s official website, United became the first team to win 100 games in the Premier League in which they conceded the opening goal.

The Premier League record has definitely been influenced by United’s propensity for comebacks under Sir Alex Ferguson, while the Reds have frequently lost after conceding first under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Amazingly, 10 of United’s 21 league victories under Solskjaer’s leadership in 2020–21 came after conceding an opening goal.

The Red Devils have been one of the best teams in England for years and they are well-known for fighting till the end even if they have conceded goals first. Truly, Manchester United are the comeback king of the Premier League.
