As reported by the Manchester Evening News, Manchester United has decided not to challenge Casemiro’s red card decision against Crystal Palace.
Casemiro was sent off after he was found guilty of grabbing Palace player Will Hughes by the throat in the 70th minute of United’s 2-1 victory over the Eagles.
Because of this, the Brazilian midfielder will miss both the Premier League games against Leeds United this week and Leicester’s visit on February 19.
Tony Harrington, the video assistant referee, assessed the incident and informed on-pitch official Andre Marriner that Casemiro’s move qualified as aggressive conduct and called for a straight red card.
Palace striker Jordan Ayew appeared to be putting his hand around United midfielder Fred’s throat during the same brawl, but the VAR determined that there was no reason to show him a red card.
Casemiro’s dismissal marked the first red card for a United player this season, and earlier in the week, Ten Hag expressed disappointment with the decision not to punish Palace striker Jean-Philippe Mateta for elbowing Lisandro Martinez in the opposing match last month.
Ten Hag was also dissatisfied with the lack of consequences for Reading attacker Andy Carroll’s scissor tackle on Christian Eriksen.
Due to the horrific incident, Eriksen has suffered an ankle injury and he will be out until late April.
