Manchester United monitoring the situation of Napoli’s Kim Min-Jae

According to Sky Sport Italia’s Gianluca Di Marzio, Manchester United is interested in signing centre-back Kim Min-Jae from Napoli but won’t be able to trigger his release clause this January.

The 25-year-old South Korean international only recently switched to Napoli for £16 million from Fenerbahce. However, he has excelled for the Italian team, scoring twice in eight games and he also helped them defeat Liverpool by a big scoreline.

According to reports, the Red Devils are thinking of exercising Kim’s £44 million release clause. However, it is rumoured that clause won’t be available in the January transfer window, thus United might have to wait or bargain with Napoli for a price.

The €50 million release clause for Kim is not applicable during the winter transfer window. Clubs interested in the rock-solid defender must wait until the summer of 2023 to trigger his clause.

Kim joined the Partenopei from Fenerbache for €18 million and took Kalidou Koulibaly’s spot at the Stadio Maradona in the summer.

Before Kim joined Napoli, Tottenham and Juventus expressed interest in him as well. However, Antonio Conte decided to recruit Clement Lenglet from Barcelona on a loan deal.

Currently, Manchester United are looking solid in defence under the leadership of Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez.

The club’s new signings are showing their worth as the Red Devils will be looking forward to winning their fifth match on the trot by putting in another fine display in their next derby clash against Manchester City.
