Manchester United must accelerate their discussions with Napoli centre-back Kim Min-jae if they wish to secure the defender’s transfer this summer.
Talks between United and the player have reportedly made little progress, as per Foot Mercato. Paris Saint-Germain, Chelsea, and Newcastle United are also keeping an eye on the situation of the South Korean international.
Kim Min-jae possesses a €60 million foreign release clause in his existing contract, set to become effective in the first two weeks of July.
The 26-year-old featured in nearly all of Napoli’s Serie A matches this season, playing a crucial part in their triumph as league champions after more than 30 years.
At United, Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez have cemented themselves as the preferred centre-back duo. Erik Ten Hag is eager to increase the competition within the squad and considers Min-jae an excellent addition.

Should the Napoli defender join, it would likely signal the end of Harry Maguire’s tenure at Old Trafford, as the Englishman is now considered the fourth-choice defender by Ten Hag.
In contrast, Min-jae is known for his quick passing ability and proactive defending. Given Varane’s susceptibility to injuries, United requires a reliable third centre-back for cover.
The lack of progress in securing the 26-year-old could be attributed to the uncertainty surrounding the club’s ownership situation.
The Glazers must provide more clarity on the sale process to avoid falling behind in the transfer market.
