As reported by the Manchester Evening News, Manchester United has decided to let winger Facundo Pellistri move out on loan this summer.
Since the start of the year, the 21-year-old has filled in as a substitute six times, and in nearly every one of them, he has had an impactful appearance.
A loan move would probably determine whether Pellistri has a long-term future at the club because United are reluctant to sell him less than three years into his Old Trafford career.
Pellistri, who joined United for £9 million from Penarol in October 2020, had to wait more than two years to make his debut against Charlton in this season’s League Cup quarterfinal.
The young attacker spent the whole 2017–18 season in La Liga despite only making six starts, and United has twice loaned him to Alaves. Pellistri was selected for Uruguay’s team for their friendlies against Japan and South Korea this month after starting in two of their three World Cup group games in Qatar.
Pellistri played brilliantly against Southampton and it shows that the manager needs to put faith on the player.
Meanwhile, Anthony Elanga is another player who could be loaned out this summer. The 20-year-old has made seven starts under Erik ten Hag, and all but one of those starts occurred before to the season’s November 13 World Cup break.
Elanga started in 16 of the 29 games Ralf Rangnick managed as temporary manager during the previous season, but he hasn’t scored for United in almost a year.
United would need to bolster their attacking unit if they plan to let these two players leave on loan. Antony Martial is also expected to leave the club as the Red Devils want to sign a striker who is more reliable upfront.
