Manchester United player ratings against Tottenham Hotspur | EPL 2020-21

Manchester United were left red-faced at the end of the game against Tottenham, as the Spurs ran riot at Old Trafford. The United defence was shambolic last night and the red card to Martial early in the game didn’t help the Red Devils’ cause. It is hard to pick a standout performer from the United side, who caused trouble to Mourinho’s Tottenham Hotspur.

Let us now have a look at Manchester United players’ match rating against Tottenham.

DAVID DE GEA – 4

David De Gea was a mere onlooker in between the sticks for Manchester United last night as Tottenham scored six past him. He made a few good saves and wasn’t directly involved in a fault leading to the goal.

AARON WAN-BISSAKA – 4

Wan-Bissaka was at fault at Tottenham’s second goal as he switched off, as soon as Kane got the freekick from Maguire’s challenge.

ERIC BAILLY – 3

Bailly finally earned a starting place for Manchester United in the Premier League but he disappointed big time. The Ivorian defender made a couple of important blocks but was at fault for a couple of goals as well.

HARRY MAGUIRE – 2

Arguably the worst player on the pitch, the Manchester United captain had a day to forget last night. The centre-back was at fault for as many as three goals for the Spurs and has been rightly criticized by the fanbase.

LUKE SHAW – 2

The left-back also had a day to forget as he was constantly double-teamed down Tottenham’s right and thus had a poor game. His positional could be questioned though as he found himself in a centre-back’s position.

NEMANJA MATIC – 3

The Serbian midfielder failed to control the midfield and run past easily by the likes of Ndombele and Kane. He was also pinched off the ball at the edge of the penalty box, even though it was a poor pass from Eric Bailly. Matic was taken off at half-time and was replaced by Fred.

PAUL POGBA – 2

In one of the worst performances in his career, Paul Pogba didn’t seem to do anything right last night. Though he wasn’t taken off at half-time, Solskjaer should have taken him off as he lacked the leadership. Pogba was also at fault for the last couple of goals for Tottenham.

BRUNO FERNANDES – 5

Manchester United’s only goalscorer last night, Bruno Fernandes failed to create chances for the Red Devils. He was taken off at half-time and many believe it was a wrong decision by Solskjaer.

MARCUS RASHFORD – 5

The only Manchester United player who was trying his best for the entire 90 minutes was Marcus Rashford. The winger was full of running till the final whistle and looked like the only United player to fight it for 90 minutes.

MASON GREENWOOD – 4

The teenager was ineffective last night and found it difficult to cope up with Tottenham once United were one man down. He was later taken off at about the hour mark, to be replaced by Van de Beek.

ANTHONY MARTIAL – 2

Martial started the game very well as he won the penalty that led to United’s only goal in the game. But with his red card due to his slap on Lamela’s face, the game turned on its head. His red card is very speculative because Lamela instigated by hitting Martial first.

SUBSTITUTES

FRED – 3

Fred came on at half time in place of Matic and tried his best to stop Tottenham attacks. But the Brazilian failed to do anything positive on the pitch.

SCOTT MCTOMINAY – 4

One of the best United players in the second half, McTominay was robust in the midfield and was great with his tackles.

DONNY VAN DE BEEK – 4

The Dutch international couldn’t do anything to impact the game but he tried his best to have a positive impact on United’s gameplay.
