Manchester United played hosts to Chelsea in the Premier League fixture last night as the game ended in a stalemate. Both the managers were to blame for fielding a defensive system in place, as both the sides failed to create chances. It was expected to be an end to end enthralling game but it was rather boring football, as most of the passing done was sideways, instead of looking forward.
Let us now have a look at how the Manchester United players rated against arch-rivals Chelsea.
DAVID DE GEA – 7
David De Gea had very little to do last night against Chelsea, as the Blues didn’t have even one clear cut chance. Chelsea had just one shot on target, and it was from a 30-yard free-kick, which was too comfortable to save.
AARON WAN-BISSAKA – 6
Aaron Wan-Bissaka didn’t have to do a lot defensively, as Chelsea rarely attacked. The right-back’s game was mostly spent in Chelsea’s half but because of his lack of attacking intent, he couldn’t affect the game.
VICTOR LINDELOF – 8
Victor Lindelof had a great game last night covering up the defence and defensive lapses and keeping Timo Werner at bay. The Swedish international looked very comfortable on the ball and distributed it well.
HARRY MAGUIRE – 7
Maguire had a good game except for one moment which should have been a penalty. The United captain foolishly manhandled Azpilicueta and dragged him down in United’s box, but luckily it wasn’t even checked.
LUKE SHAW – 7
Luke Shaw had a very comfortable game last night, as Chelsea hardly used the right side of their attack. Shaw did well, especially after Dan James’ was taken off and Rashford moved to the left flank.
FRED – 6
Defensively Fred had a good game as he covered a lot of ground, but his passing and distribution is to be questioned. The Brazilian gave Chelsea a lot of chance to win the second balls due to his poor first-touch.
SCOTT MCTOMINAY – 6
Scott McTominay had an average game last night but covered up the ground and added a screen to the centre-backs. He was later subbed off to get Mason Greenwood in the game.
BRUNO FERNANDES – 7
Bruno Fernandes had a below-par game according to his standards. As he failed to score himself or create stuff. The Portuguese midfielder worked his socks off to but barely had an influence in the game like he would have liked to have.
JUAN MATA – 7
The Spaniard once again proved that form is temporary but class is permanent with his silky passes. Mata had a good shot saved by Mendy and also created the opportunity for Rashford deep in the first half, which the winger couldn’t capitalize on.
DANIEL JAMES – 5
James’ selection was a shock to everyone as the winger was clueless in the last game against Newcastle. Last night was no different as he simply could not take part in United’s build-up and often looked out of sorts.
MARCUS RASHFORD – 6
Marcus Rashford worked hard against a back three but also squandered a golden chance to score for the Red Devils. Solskjaer would have expected Rashford to score, especially after the 90th minute, when Mendy stopped a potential top corner goal.
SUBSTITUTES
PAUL POGBA – 7
Paul Pogba looked in his element as he was great on the ball, be it passing it into space or driving the team forward. The Frenchman had a good influence on the game and finally looks fit to start games.
EDINSON CAVANI – 6
Edinson Cavani finally made his debut for the Red Devils and could have even scored in his first touch. Other than that, he didn’t play any role for Manchester United in his first minutes for the club.
MASON GREENWOOD – N/A
Came on very late and did very little.
