According to SPORT, Manchester United have taken concrete steps to pursue Barcelona defender Marcos Alonso. The Red Devils have made an official loan offer for Alonso in an effort to address their issues at left-back.
United suffered problems when their first-choice left-back, Luke Shaw, sustained a long-term injury that is expected to keep him sidelined until at least November. Additionally, his deputy, Tyrell Malacia, is also dealing with a recurring knee problem.
Given the shortage of options at left-back, manager Erik ten Hag called upon Diogo Dalot to step in, and Dalot performed impressively in their recent 3-2 comeback victory against Nottingham Forest.
However, United remains determined to secure a specialized left-back before the transfer window closes.

The club is reportedly exploring various players, including some surprising choices. Among them, there are discussions of a potential return to the Premier League for Marcos Alonso, a player who previously enjoyed six successful years at Chelsea, securing major titles such as the Premier League, and UCL.
Alonso’s adaptability, having played as both a left-back and even as a centre-back under Xavi Hernandez at Barcelona, could be valuable for Ten Hag’s squad.
Alonso did not feature in Xavi’s squad for the first two La Liga games of the 2023-24 season but played as a left-back in their thrilling 4-3 win over Villarreal.
