Spanish publication Fichajes has reported that Manchester United are ready to battle with fierce rivals Manchester City for RB Leipzig star Dani Olmo. But given Barcelona’s interest in the attacking midfielder from RB Leipzig, it won’t be a simple task.
Olmo joined the Bundesliga giants in January 2020 and he has played a crucial role in their system. He could play at the 2022 FIFA World Cup because Luis Enrique is rumoured to be a fan of the player. Despite his performances, Leipzig has so far been able to hang onto him without drawing any attention. But heated transfer rumours will surround Olmo the following summer.
Erik ten Hag has so far managed to steady the ship as Manchester United has gone through a roller coaster ride. The Red Devils have put together an eight-match unbeaten streak and are vying for a top-four spot. However, considering that the Red Devils have a difficult road ahead of them, Bruno Fernandes’ lacklustre performance may be cause for concern. Donny van de Beek hasn’t exactly seized the chance to utilize his opportunities.
As a result, ten Hag is short of options in the attacking midfield position. If Bruno Fernandes’ inconsistent play worsens, Olmo might step in as a replacement.
Olmo’s contract would expire the next year, therefore Leipzig would have a strong chance to fetch a healthy profit by agreeing to sell him. It will be interesting to watch who will sign him first among Manchester United, Manchester City, and Barcelona.
