Manchester United ready to keep Anthony Martial due to lack of buyers

Due to the lack of interest in signing Anthony Martial, Manchester United is ready to keep him at the club past this summer. Such a result would affect Erik ten Hag’s plans to improve his attacking options in his first full season.

Last season, the French striker had scored just two goals for United and had a forgettable four-month loan at Sevilla. The Manchester Evening News claims that “nobody is breaking down the door” to sign Martial.

Ten Hag has approved the sale of the 26-year-old if a fair offer comes in, indicating that he does not fit into his plans.

Martial has only scored eight goals for the team over the past two seasons after reclaiming the No. 9 jersey. It was far off from his best when he scored 23 goals in the 2019–20 season.

He may currently rank after Jadon Sancho, Marcus Rashford, and Anthony Elanga as United’s fourth-choice left-winger.

Erik Ten Hag is believed to have acknowledged that, if Martial doesn’t spark any interest, he may need to incorporate him into his plans. To increase his chances of being included in Didier Deschamps’ World Cup squad later this year, the Frenchman would probably also prefer to leave permanently.

Martial’s attitude has been criticized frequently in previous years. He had revealed that when on loan in Spain, he asked to be excused for regular minutes, something he’s unlikely to get the next term.

Martial was not called up for international duty this month. It is expected that he will return to United for pre-season on Monday.

He will have the chance to interact with Ten Hag and will have the chance to make a good first impression.
