Manchester United receive upper hand in race for Dayot Upemacano

Manchester United have received an upper hand in their attempt to lure the star french defender Dayot Upemacano.

United are linked with the exciting Frenchman since he was 16 years old. He twice came on the brink of moving to Old Trafford in 2015 but the deal was never completed.

The defender joined the Austrian team Red Bull Salzburg as he found it perfect for his development, before moving across the sister Red Bull team to Leipzig in 2017.

Fierce competition for Upamecano’s signature is being expected, with Liverpool, Real Madrid, and Bayern Munich all registering interest, but the Red Devils received a major boost yesterday regarding Upemacano when German football guru Christian Falk reported that Bayern Munich wouldn’t be pursuing his signature.

Upamecano’s contract has put quite a less transfer on his head, with the team demanding quite less than the player’s value. He has a release clause of £45 million, the contract is set to become active in June. However, Falk also stated that Leipzig will be tempted to sell the defender in the month of January if their price is met.

This is bad news for the Red Devils as Liverpool will try to get the defender for cheap. With key defenders of Liverpool’s famous backline all resting for a long time with injuries, Klopp will be keeping an eye on the defender and can rather snap him up as a cover for Virgil Van Dijk, Joe Gomes, and Matip.

On the other hand, Real are unlikely to enter the bidding in January while still being under considerable financial stress. Their priorities, in any case, lie farther up the pitch with both Mbappe and Haaland on their summer shopping list. This will lead to fierce competition between United and their PL-rivals, Liverpool.

A new centre-back will provide a huge boost for United in strengthening their stand for competing for the title and also finding a perfect partner for Maguire. Fans will be delighted to see United tightening their defence further up, after leaking lots of goals at the start of the season
