Manchester United reportedly have made initial inquiries about the availability of Bayern Munich forward Thomas Muller.
The 30-year-old admitted a few weeks ago that will have to consider his future if the coaching team at Bayern München only sees him as a substitute.
After starting on the bench six times in a row, Müller made his return to Bayern’s line-up against Olympiacos on Tuesday, setting up two goals in his team’s 3-2 win.
He came off the bench against Augsburg with Bayern leading 2-1 and had the chance to put the game to bed but dragged his shot wide,Muller would be made to rue the missed chance with Augsburg going on to equalize in stoppage time.
United have long fancied Muller having tried to sign him previously for Louis van Gaal but their lack of Champions League football could prove decisive.
Antonio Conte’s Inter Milan have also been linked with Muller with the Serie A club currently having only two fit strikers despite playing with two strikers upfront.
Muller is under contract until 2021 and doesn’t turn 31 until next September so will still command a substantial fee should he push to go, particularly in January.
Although still only 30 years of age Muller has been on the decline in recent years and was told by Germany coach Joachim Loew in March, alongside fellow 2014 World Cup winners Mats Hummels and Jerome Boateng, that he has no future in the national squad.
Solskjaer has favored young British signings rather than expensive foreign players but might want to add some experience by adding Muller to the ranks.
