As revealed by the club’s official website, Marcel Sabitzer will don the number 15 jersey while playing for Manchester United.
The 28-year-old Bayern Munich defender joined the Red Devils on loan until the end of the 2022–23 season. The Austrian international doesn’t have a buy option in his loan contract, but he will be looking to win over Erik ten Hag, his new manager.
Bayern’s number 18 was present at Old Trafford as he watched his new teammates defeat Nottingham Forest 2-0 and move on to the Carabao Cup final with a 5-0 aggregate scoreline.
The former Red Bull Leipzig midfielder, who plays for Austria under former Manchester United interim manager Ralf Rangnick, will be looking to make his United debut on Saturday against Crystal Palace.
Sabitzer will wear jersey number 15 for the team, carrying on the legacy of Manchester United greats like Nemanja Vidic, Paul Scholes, David Beckham, and Gary Neville.
While playing for RB Leipzig, he wore the number 7, and he also wore it while playing for RB Salzburg. Prior to joining the Red Bull teams, he played for Rapid Vienna and FC Admira Wacker Mödling in Austria, wearing the number 24 jersey.
Sabitzer will be aiming to earn regular minutes at Old Trafford and, in turn, secure his future at either United or Bayern next season.
