As revealed by the club’s official Twitter handle, Manchester United have officially announced that new signing Andre Onana will be donning the No.24 shirt for the club.
The 27-year-old goalkeeper has inked a five-year contract after the club agreed to pay a fee of £47.72 million to secure his transfer from the Italian club.
On Thursday, he travelled to the United States and will join his new teammates as soon as possible.
Following the official announcement of his move, the Cameroonian goalkeeper expressed his excitement about embarking on a new journey with United.
He also revealed his anticipation to reunite with Erik ten Hag, his former coach from their Ajax days.

Despite having the option to claim the No.1 shirt, left vacant after David De Gea’s departure earlier this month, Onana opted to retain the No.24 jersey, which he previously wore during his stints at Inter Milan and Ajax.
This number had been vacant since Timothy Fosu-Mensah’s departure in 2021. Upon joining Inter Milan as a free agent last summer, chose the No.24 shirt, as the No.1 was already taken by Samir Handanović.

During his time at Ajax, Onana wore the No.1 shirt for one season in 2017/2018 before eventually shifting to the No.24. The reason behind his preference for that specific number remains unknown.
There is a possibility that Onana might make his debut appearance in the United goalkeeper shirt on Saturday, as Ten Hag’s team is scheduled to face Arsenal in New Jersey.
