Manchester United has revealed that star midfielder Christian Eriksen will be out for at least three months after suffering a serious injury due to Andy Carroll’s careless lunge on Saturday.
Carroll’s behind-the-back challenge was enough to land the Danish midfielder on crutches during the 3-1 FA Cup victory. The Red Devils were primarily concerned about the playmaker’s recovery period, and nothing was revealed until the scan results were out.
However, the club has now revealed that the results have brought in negative news regarding Eriksen’s injury. As revealed by the club’s official website, a statement was released stating:
‘Manchester United midfielder Christian Eriksen is expected to be out of action for an extended period because of an ankle injury sustained in our Emirates FA Cup victory over Reading on Saturday.’
‘Our Danish midfielder was withdrawn in the second half of the 3-1 win after being caught by a tackle from Reading striker Andy Carroll, who was later sent off for two bookable offences.’
If his recovery goes according to plan, his return should happen in late April or early May. The team is still hoping that he will be able to play again before the end of the season.
Eriksen yelled in pain during the second half of the match on Saturday, and was later seen leaving the stadium while using crutches and a protective boot.It was immediately apparent that damage had been done. Erik ten Hag predicted that Fred, who scored United’s third goal on Saturday, would take Eriksen’s place in the coming months.
