As reported by the Manchester Evening News, Manchester United will be looking forward to snapping up AC Milan star Rafael Leao after scouting him in a recent match.
By signing former Ajax star, Antony, the Red Devils have improved their right-wing unit this year. With three Premier League goals to his credit, the Brazilian has already proven to be an excellent signing.
However, the forward line still has a lot of room for improvement. Leao fully satisfies the club’s need for another adaptable player who can play either the left wing or lead the line.
Last season, the Portuguese had his best-ever season playing for Milan, scoring 14 goals and dishing out 12 assists in 42 games. In just 13 games this season, he has added four more goals and eight more assists. His career numbers as a striker are more than respectable, with 23 goals and eight assists from 69 games in all competitions, all of which have come from the left wing. Leao, who is only 23 years old, is only entering his career’s peak, and he should only become better over the upcoming seasons.
United scouted Leao during the Champions League match between the Italian giants and Chelsea. The pacy attacker is reportedly admired by Erik ten Hag.
Leao has thus far declined an extension of his contract with Milan past June 2024. To convince the Portuguese to extend his stay, the Rossoneri intend to have new discussions with his father.
He might potentially be available for £60 million next summer if they are unsuccessful in handing him a new contract. Given that Chelsea and PSG are also interested in him, United might need to act quickly to secure his services.
A winter move would be more expensive, but the board should support Ten Hag because he has so far made the best decisions about transfers.
