According to the Manchester Evening News, Manchester United is actively scouting New England Revolution goalie Djordje Petrovic.
David de Gea is currently without a doubt the Red Devils’ top goalkeeper, and he has been in outstanding form this year. The club and the player have already started talking about a new contract, so it may only be a matter of time before he agrees to a long-term arrangement.
Although this is the case, there are rumours that United may still sign a shot-stopper this summer, with Petrovic appearing to be the top target right now.
Petrovic has been one of Major League Soccer’s best goalkeepers. The clubs haven’t spoken to one another about signing the Serbian star this summer.
Last summer, United acquired Martin Dubravka on loan from Newcastle United. The Slovakian was De Gea’s understudy until the Magpies called him back in January.
Jack Butland was signed on loan this January, but he hasn’t yet played for United. He was recently chosen ahead of Tom Heaton. Petrovic successfully completed an amazing 94% of passes in his own half and has quick reflexes.
Naturally, United has the option of keeping Dean Henderson following his loan spell at Nottingham Forest, although it seems doubtful that he will do so given his interview from the previous summer.
Henderson has made it obvious that he wants to regularly play for the first team, so it won’t come as a surprise if United approves of his permanent sale during the upcoming transfer window.
