Manchester United seriously considering a move for Tottenham’s Sergio Reguilon

According to David Ornstein, Manchester United are seriously considering a move for Tottenham Hotspur’s left-back, Sergio Reguilon, on loan this summer.

This move is being considered due to complications in securing Chelsea player Marc Cucurella, who played in the Carabao Cup last night.

If United wants to let Cucurella return to Chelsea in January when Luke Shaw and Tyrrell Malacia recover from injury, they would need to be aware that he can’t play for a third club this season according to the rules.

Nonetheless, the possibility of signing the Blues full-back is not completely ruled out. The decision will depend on footballing and financial factors, particularly in light of their ongoing pursuit of Fiorentina midfielder Sofyan Amrabat.

In any case, Man United are actively exploring other options for a left-back, as manager Erik ten Hag is keen to strengthen that position before the transfer deadline on Friday.

Reguilon has not played for Tottenham this season and spent last season on loan at Atletico Madrid, where he made 12 appearances but did not register any goals or assists.

Although the 26-year-old is not part of Tottenham’s current plans under manager Ange Postecoglou, he possesses the attributes that could make him a success at Old Trafford under Erik ten Hag.

Reguilon is known for his ability to play comfortably with the ball and provide precise crosses from his wing.

Reguilon’s recent form may have dipped, but a move to United could provide an opportunity for him to recapture the level of performance that earned him a spot in the Europa League Squad of the Season in 2020, especially considering his crucial role in helping Sevilla secure the title during that campaign.

The Red Devils currently have limited left-back options, primarily relying on the versatile Diogo Dalot and the 20-year-old Alvaro Fernandez.

To ensure they have adequate cover in this position for the rest of the season, they cannot afford to avoid strengthening their options.
