As reported by the Daily Express, Spanish giants Barcelona will have to pay €25 million to get their hands on Manchester United right-back Diogo Dalot.
The Red Devils would ask for €25 million to let the Portuguese leave Old Trafford. The Blaugrana wants to sign the Portuguese defender in order to improve the right-back position. However, the Catalan powerhouses are unwilling to spend such a fee for the United full-back.
Dalot made steady progress after moving from FC Porto to United more than four years ago. One of Jose Mourinho’s final signings at the Manchester-based club, the 23-year-old has been a key player under Erik ten Hag.
The Portuguese is currently United’s first-choice right-back, but it has taken him some time to make himself known there. He has played in each of the Red Devils’ games this season and has contributed two assists. It seems that Barcelona has been paying heed to his performances as they have sent scouts to watch his performances multiple times.
Dalot attracted the La Liga club’s attention at first during the summer transfer window. However, The Red Devils did not want to part with the young player at the time since Ten Hag had made him the team’s starting right-back. Barcelona ultimately decided to sign Hector Bellerin as their right-back, although the Spaniard only agreed to a one-year deal.
Sergi Roberto’s future at Camp Nou is also in doubt, and he may leave Barcelona next summer. As a result, Dalot has become a potential target for Barcelona, who are keeping tabs on his status. The 23-year-old is in the last year of his contract, which explains his availability.
Even though United would prefer for him to sign a new, long-term contract, they will probably exercise their option to extend his current agreement by a year. However, if necessary, the Red Devils will use their clause and demand €25 million for the Portuguese defender.
However, the Catalan powerhouses are unwilling to spend €25 million to sign Dalot because they expect him to be of much lesser value. Dalot’s readiness to move from United to Barcelona is also unknown.
In the end, Manchester United’s ability to advance further in the Champions League may determine his ultimate decision.
