Manchester United set to pip Arsenal to signing Lisandro Martinez

Manchester United are hoping to pip Arsenal to signing Lisandro Martinez this summer with the centre-back emerging as a top target at Old Trafford for the new boss Eric ten Hag.

The Ajax defender has been heavily linked with a move to Arsenal with the North London giants appearing to have tabled a third bid for the Argentine centre-back after their second offer of £34million was rebuffed.

According to a report from The Sun, United could be set to hijack Arsenal’s long-standing interest in 24-year-old Martinez who has his heart set on making the switch to the Premier League with some of the biggest clubs across England chasing his signature.

A fee of around £43 million is said to be Ajax’s asking price for letting their wantaway first-team regular leave in the summer with the incoming Manchester United manager Ten Hag looking to bolster his options at the back before the next season kicks off.

The prospect of a reunion with his former head coach Ten Hag at Old Trafford could be lucrative enough for Martinez to turn down interest from Arsenal in his services and instead join the Red Devils.
