Manchester United set to trigger Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Victor Lindelof’s contract

Manchester United are set to activate Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Victor Lindelof’s contract extensions, as reported by ESPN.

Both players faced challenges under manager Erik ten Hag last season but played vital roles in the latter part of the campaign.

While their current contracts are set to run out in June 2024, United intends to trigger the 12-month extension options. The club is ready to engage in discussions about a new long-term contract with Wan-Bissaka.

The right-back played just four competitive minutes before the World Cup last year.

The English star managed to turn his fortunes around after the World Cup, benefiting from Diogo Dalot’s injury and becoming a regular in the team towards the end of the previous campaign.

This season, he maintained his starting position until a recent injury, and it’s not surprising that the club is keen on securing a new contract for him.

Similarly, Lindelof gained the manager’s confidence after a challenging start to the year when Harry Maguire was frequently chosen ahead of him.

Injuries to Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez led to his increased involvement, and he currently serves as the third-choice central defender in the squad.

While there’s no mention of contract talks for Lindelof in the ESPN report, it’s likely that United will initiate negotiations due to his importance to the team. There are also talks about Anthony Martial’s contract issues.

The French striker has had a limited role at United, facing multiple injuries last season and losing his starting position to Rasmus Hojlund this season.

If the 27-year-old can’t make a significant impact as a substitute, United may consider releasing him next summer, especially given his huge weekly salary of £250,000.

It seems unlikely that the club will offer him a pay rise given his recent performance.
