Manchester United share positive update on Donny Van de Beek’s knee injury

As stated by the club’s official Twitter handle, Manchester United midfielder Donny van de Beek was observed engaging in ball exercises during a training session on Monday as part of his recovery process following a knee injury that prematurely ended his season.

The Dutch midfielder had limited playing time, featuring in only 10 matches, with just four of them as a starter, before he had to undergo surgery due to a setback injury sustained in January during a 3-0 victory over Bournemouth.

Van de Beek initially began rehabilitation in the gym in March and recently progressed to individual training on the Carrington training ground earlier this month. Now, during a one-on-one session, the 26-year-old has been spotted performing drills involving the ball.

The former Ajax star will not be able to participate in the upcoming FA Cup final against Manchester City. However, Ten Hag hopes to have him fully recovered and ready for pre-season training. The midfielder still has two years left on his contract with the club.

The player’s future at the club remains uncertain, as it is expected that United will offload some players to make room for new signings during the summer transfer window.

Van de Beek, who was signed by United for £35 million in 2020, has had a relatively low impact. He has contributed only two goals and two assists in 60 appearances for the team, with just 23 of those being starts.

Other players are also approaching their final days at Manchester United. Wout Weghorst, who was on loan from Burnley, is set to return to his parent club as Ten Hag decided against making the move permanent.

Goalkeeper Jack Butland, who has not made a debut for United, will also be leaving as his contract with Crystal Palace expires next month.

Both players were seen in training on Monday, unlike Marcel Sabitzer, who is on loan from Bayern Munich and will miss the trip to Wembley due to a knee injury suffered earlier this month.
