According to the Manchester Evening News, Manchester United and Barcelona are both showing significant interest in signing Fiorentina midfielder Sofyan Amrabat.
The Red Devils are actively looking to strengthen their midfield for the upcoming season, with Mason Mount from Chelsea being their primary target.
Manager Erik Ten Hag sees Amrabat as an ideal addition for increased creativity. While United actively pursues Amrabat, Barcelona remains the preferred choice for the Moroccan midfielder.
However, due to Financial Fair Play constraints, Barcelona may be unable to afford his transfer, opening the possibility for alternative options. United has reportedly increased their communication with Amrabat’s representatives in recent hours.
Casemiro has established himself as United’s top choice in the defensive midfield position since his full Premier League debut in October of last year.

He has performed exceptionally well in that role. Ten Hag may seek to add intense competition for the position and Amrabat is seen as a reliable backup option for the squad.
The 26-year-old Moroccan midfielder impressed during the World Cup in Qatar with his diligent work rate and accurate distribution from the defensive midfield position. He would likely be an upgrade over Scott McTominay.

This season, Amrabat has showcased 90% passing accuracy in Serie A, along with 1.3 tackles and 3.1 duels won per game. His strengths lie in his positioning and concentration.
He would provide healthy competition for Casemiro and could serve as a suitable replacement when rotation is necessary. He is valued at €25 million, and considering his contract with Fiorentina expires in the summer of 2024, he could be available for a similar fee.
