As reported by the Manchester Evening News, Inter Milan centre-back Stefan de Vrij is reportedly being pursued by a number of clubs, including Manchester United.
Since moving from Lazio in 2018, De Vrij has made 184 appearances for Inter, contributing nine goals and seven assists.
He has won two Italian Super Cups, one Coppa Italia, and one Serie A title during his career in Italy, although his future with the Nerazzurri remains uncertain.
De Vrij’s contract is set to expire at the end of the current campaign, and he might join Milan Skriniar in leaving on a free transfer. The Inter Milan star is apparently being targeted by a number of clubs in Europe, despite Inter supposedly planning to extend his contract.
Many teams are considering the idea of signing De Vrij on a free transfer at the end of the season, including United. Although Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez are fit and available, Harry Maguire may be given the chance to leave at the end of the current season.
With only four Premier League starts this season, Maguire has slid down the pecking order at Old Trafford, and his likely exit would leave room in United’s defensive ranks.
Erik ten Hag has identified De Vrij as a prospective transfer target, and as his contract is slated to expire in June, he is free to negotiate a pre-contract deal with other teams.
Newcastle United, Tottenham Hotspur, Villarreal, and Feyenoord have all made approaches for the center-back. De Vrij has reportedly expressed a desire to stay at Inter, although he has only played in one of the team’s five Serie A games since the World Cup break.
The 30-year-old, who has played in 19 competitive games so far this season, is expected to make a decision about his future by the middle of February.
