Manchester United starlet Charlie McNeill agrees to join Newport on loan

As reported by the Manchester Evening News, Manchester United starlet Charlie McNeill has agreed to sign a loan deal with League Two club Newport County until the end of the current season.

Everything is set up for the 19-year-old to complete his move before the deadline on Tuesday. McNeill is eager to start playing for his new club for the remaining few months of the season. He has already trained with his new teammates.

McNeill’s transfer is subject to international approval; despite competing in the English league system, Newport’s transfers were approved by the Welsh FA. The United Academy graduate was presented with a plethora of offers this month, but he decided to sign with the League Two underdogs due to promises on the role he will play.

McNeill, who scored twice last week for United’s U21 team against Feyenoord, is keen to play regular football and has turned down offers from other top clubs because they couldn’t guarantee him opportunities on a consistent basis.

Last season, the League One team Sheffield Wednesday provided a loan deal for the Droylsden-born attacker, which allowed him to practise with the first team but not participate in any games.

The youngster made his senior debut earlier this season when he entered the game in the dying seconds of United’s Europa League loss at home to Real Sociedad.

The academy forward wasn’t selected for the senior matchday squad after being selected for the trip to Europe to face FC Sheriff. McNeill made headlines three years ago when he returned to United from Manchester City for an initial cost of £750,000 that could increase to £1.5 million.

The forward, who scored more than 600 goals at the youth level, turned down a new deal at City in order to reunite with his dream club.
