Manchester United start transfer talks with Rennes for Camavinga

Renowned transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Manchester United has initiated transfer talks with Rennes to sign French wonderkid Eduardo Camavinga.

Manchester United was initially linked with the star teenager but the news was not having a solid foundation. But over the course of a few days, the talks have started to take the pace and now it has taken everyone by surprise.

Camavinga is available for a mere £30m which is an absolute steal for such a star player. His contract will run till June 2022 at Rennes and if the club doesn’t sell him now, then they will surely lose him for free next summer.

Manchester United and PSG were secret admirers of Camavinga, but United seems to be more serious for the player. Manchester United’s board is convinced by the player’s abilities and they have marked him as a long-term target as he could play for years to come.

United has already confirmed the deal for Jadon Sancho and has also started transfer talks with Real Madrid for Raphael Varane. After Camavinga’s news, it is quite clear that United is not messing up the transfer window this year and they are very serious about their targets.

So what does Camavinga brings to the table for Manchester United?

Manchester United’s weak point apart from the inconsistent center-backs has been the defensive midfield position. Last season, Solksjaer has mostly played Fred and McTominay in front of Maguire and Lindelof or even Pogba at the spot. This has brought more cons than pros.

Pogba is not able to play freely because of his lack of attacking influence. His weak defending has also caused problems at that spot. Signing Camavinga will ease the pressure on Pogba and both, Fernandes and Pogba can play at the CM position and let Camavinga command the CDM role. This midfield will look deadly on the pitch.

Fred and McTominay have failed to bring something different. Both of them have been inconsistent and as Roy Keane once said, United can’t win trophies with this duo. They need to upgrade at that position.

Camavinga has been nicknamed ‘Tacklevinga’. It does sound funny, but it doesn’t hide the fact that his tackles are just so accurate. His defensive abilities have been the reason that he even earned the France debut at such a young age.

His main attributes are tackling and interceptions and he doesn’t hold back from making offensive runs into the opposition half. His passes into the final third are also quite impressive.

At such a young age, he has so much to offer. With time, he can develop into a lethal player for Manchester United. We think that a £30m investment in a young prodigy is worth the gamble.
