Manchester United step up efforts to sign Dortmund’s Manuel Akanji

Manchester United have reportedly stepped up efforts to sign Dortmund’s Manuel Akanji this coming summer to bolster their defensive roster.

Skipper Harry Maguire’s woeful run of form of late could force the Old Trafford camp into eyeing up reinforcements from the transfer market before heading into the new campaign.

The Swiss international Akanji has emerged as one of the top players in his position in the Bundesliga with Borussia Dortmund who are likely to slap a big-money price tag on their defensive mainstay should they sanction his sale.

A report from the German news outlet BILD ( via The Daily Express) has claimed that United have tabled another approach to bring Akanji to Old Trafford in the summer with the player having turned down an offer to renew terms at the Westfalenstadion.

The 26-year-old Akanji is not the only star name on the shopping list for United with the likes of Sevilla man Jules Kounde and Barcelona contract rebel Ronald Araújo also players scouted by the Premier League giants.
