Manchester United still not advancing in the race to sign Romeo Lavia

Manchester United manager Erik Ten Hag is determined to strengthen various positions during the upcoming transfer window. However, his primary focus lies on acquiring a new striker.

The Dutch boss faced challenges last season due to his team’s lacklustre attacking options, leading him to employ temporary solutions. The club is now prioritizing the signing of a quality striker to address this issue.

During Ten Hag’s first season, Marcus Rashford emerged as the sole reliable goal scorer, netting 30 goals across all competitions. However, the performances of Cristiano Ronaldo, Wout Weghorst, and Anthony Martial were inconsistent in terms of goal-scoring.

Similarly, Ten Hag is determined to bolster the squad with a new midfielder. Despite signing Casemiro and Christian Eriksen last summer, United still lacks depth in that area.

The impending return of Marcel Sabitzer to Bayern Munich and uncertainties surrounding the futures of Fred and Scott McTominay have further highlighted the need for midfield reinforcements.

Southampton midfielder Romeo Lavia has garnered attention from several top Premier League clubs, and there is a possibility that the teenager could depart the club following their relegation from the top flight.

Lavia, who joined Southampton from Manchester City last year, has showcased his skills and caught the eye of several prominent Premier League teams, including Manchester United. Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has shared an update on the player’s situation.

The transfer guru has revealed that United remains in the race to sign the young midfielder. However, no offers or talks have been initiated by the club.

Arsenal and Chelsea have also shown interest in securing the services of Lavia. However, Arsenal appears to have made the most progress in their pursuit.

They are reported to have a genuine and strong interest in the player, benefiting from an excellent relationship with Lavia’s representatives.

United has yet to make significant strides in negotiating a deal. It’s worth noting that Manchester City holds a buy-back clause for Lavia but cannot exercise it until the conclusion of the next season.
