Manchester United striker Edinson Cavani suffers another injury setback

Manchester United have had a rough season so far and now faces a difficult task in qualifying for the Champions League next season, but they may have just suffered another setback as Fabrizio Romano offers some bad news from the World Cup qualifiers.

Manchester United senior striker Edinson Cavani has suffered an injury while on international duty with Uruguay.

Despite missing out on game time for Manchester United this season due to Cristiano Ronaldo’s arrival, Ralf Rangnick will be concerned that the attacker will not be able to give depth as a front-line option for the team ahead of their near-impossible pursuit of a top-four finish this season.

The 35-year-old has not only lost favor at Old Trafford but he has also been struggling with injuries this season, which has drastically reduced his game time. However, there is no doubt that when he has been available for selection, he has been a reliable goal-scoring striker in the team.

In 56 games for Manchester United, the Uruguayan striker has scored 19 goals and provided seven assists, averaging one goal every 113 minutes. Under Ole Gunnar Solksjaer, his contributions at the club helped them to a second-place finish last season, in which he scored 10 league goals.

With that stated, if Ralf Rangnick’s side needed a late goal in a tense game, having Cavani as a substitute option gives them a guaranteed goal as he comes off the bench to deliver most of the time.

With Arsenal and Spurs posing stiff opposition for the Red Devils, they cannot afford to surrender points at the most crucial part of the season.

Although the extent of Cavani’s injury is unknown, it appears unlikely that he will play against Leicester at Old Trafford this weekend.
