Manchester United are understood to have tabled an improved £42 million offer for Ajax defender Lisandro Martinez, a priority target at Old Trafford this summer.
According to a report from 90min, United’s latest bid, which they believe would be enough for them to land Martinez’s signature, is inclusive of bonuses and matches Ajax’s valuation of their defensive mainstay.
Martinez has emerged as the new Red Devils head coach Eric ten Hag’s top target to bolster his roster at the back and Martinez is said to have made it known to the Ajax board that he wants to leave in this summer’s transfer window to make a move to the Premier League.
North London giants Arsenal had been credited with a strong interest in moving in for the Argentina international centre-back but United’s late entry saw Mikel Arteta’s Gunners pipped to one of the coveted names in the transfer market this time around.
United are confident that Martinez would prefer to join the Old Trafford camp to play under Ten Hag again as the club looks to do more business with Ajax to capture the Brazilian star Antony.
