After much speculation, Leon Goretzka is now open to a transfer and Manchester United want to sign this Bayern Munich midfielder.
Although target recruitments for United this summer have been focused on young players, the club is not against seeking old players as well to join Kobbie Mainoo in midfield.
Goretzka fits into the role too well, and United would get him, at most, for €40 million.
Any potential Goretzka arrival will be timely for Manchester United, who are bracing themselves for the probable sale of Casemiro, the midfielder who proved to be of notable interest to Saudi Pro League.
Such is the depth in Bayern Munich’s squad that Goretzka has been placed on a list of players-which also includes Matthijs De Ligt, Joshua Kimmich, Kingsley Coman, Serge Gnabry and Noussair Mazraoui-who can go if the right price is received.
A summer transfer strategy at Manchester United has begun to take shape after an in-depth post-season review by co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS sporting director Sir Dave Brailsford.
One of the major decisions they came up with was to keep Erik ten Hag as head coach despite some top-class candidates having been interviewed.

With Ten Hag’s future settled, the club is forging ahead with plans on the transfer front.
In fact, besides Goretzka, United have pinned down a few primary targets to strengthen the art of the squad that is required.
The key priorities have been Jarrad Branthwaite of Everton and Michael Olise of Crystal Palace.
The club is still present in the market searching for a new central midfielder to replace Casemiro and another one to replace Anthony Martial as the new striker.
What has driven this summer’s transfer activity is some high-profile departure from Old Trafford.
Raphael Varane and Anthony Martial are gone on free transfers, and the likes of Christian Eriksen are expected to follow.
The focus now is on bringing in the right mix of youth and experience to add greater depth and competitiveness to their squad for the upcoming campaign.

It means that with such strategic moves, Manchester United would stop the leaking points, thus enabling them to compete favorably in the domestic league and European competitions.
The signing of Goretzka and other target players will, therefore, be essential in helping the club reinvent a side that will be ready and able to compete for major trophies under Ten Hag.
The capture of Leon Goretzka would really strengthen United’s midfield, with experience coming in to complement the youth.
