Manchester United target David Raya unsure about his future at Brentford

Brentford goalkeeper David Raya has admitted that he is unsure about his future for the upcoming season.

With 18 months left on his contract, Raya’s future is still uncertain, as The Daily Mail reported.

The goalkeeper said that negotiations for a contract extension at the Brentford Community Stadium had previously stalled. Raya later admitted that he is uncertain of his long-term plans but insisted that he is not considering anything beyond his upcoming match.

As reported by the Daily Mail,

“I was offered a new contract last year and one in January but we didn’t reach an agreement. I would like to see what happens in summer.”

“You never know what’s around the corner. There’s nothing I can say about what’s going to happen in the summer. I don’t even know what’s going to happen on Saturday.”

Raya’s remarks follow Brentford manager Thomas Frank’s admission that he believes it will be challenging to hold onto Raya in the summer, with major clubs circling around him. Manchester United is one of the teams thought to be keeping an eye on the issue as they prepare for life after David de Gea.

Raya, who has enjoyed a solid run of form since Brentford’s promotion to the top level, has established himself as one of the strongest goalkeepers in the competition. Given that David de Gea is in talks with the team about his future, it is expected that United’s long-term goalkeeping dilemma will clear up in the coming months.

Raya will undoubtedly be on the short list to replace the massive gloves De Gea will leave behind at Old Trafford if United and De Gea do split ways. Meanwhile, De Gea is set to surpass Peter Schmeichel as the United goalkeeper with the most clean sheets.
