Manchester United target James Maddison ‘likely to sign new deal’ with Leicester

Leicester City midfielder and Manchester United target are reportedly close to agreeing on a new deal with Leicester in what will be a huge blow to the Red Devils who have long been linked with the 22-year-old.

Maddison, 22, has been in excellent form this season which earned him a call-up to England’s senior squad earlier this month.

A number of Premier League clubs have been linked with the midfielder but United was thought to be in pole position to land him.

According to The Athletic’s David Ornstein, club chiefs at the King Power Stadium are said to be keen to tie the midfielder down to a new deal in order to protect the value of an asset garnering increased attention by multiple clubs.

Liverpool, Tottenham and Man City are all interested in battling United for Maddison’s signature, but there is a general feeling between clubs that he is heading to Old Trafford.

However, all three of those clubs can offer Champions League football to the Foxes star – providing they qualify again next season – while United are currently some way behind all three and Leicester in the table.

James Maddison was in the news in midweek after he was pictured in a casino after being released from international duty.

Maddison was initially selected for the England squad for the European Qualifiers against the Czech Republic and Bulgaria but had to drop out after contracting a virus.

Photos later emerged of him gambling in a Leicester casino, with the images alleged to have been taken at the same time Southgate’s men were playing in Prague on Friday night.
