According to The Mirror, Joao Felix has told Atletico Madrid that he plans to leave the club in January.
The 23-year-old has had trouble making an impact for Diego Simeone’s team this year, managing just three goals and three assists in 12 La Liga games.
In the meantime, he was unable to score a single goal in five Champions League games, and the Spanish heavyweights finished fourth in Group B. Although Felix still has four years left on his current deal with Madrid, there have been rumours about his future recently.
The Portugal international has received significant attention from Manchester United, while Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain are also rumoured to be interested. Felix reportedly informed Atletico that he intended to leave the team during the January transfer window, and United are closely monitoring the issue.
Following Cristiano Ronaldo’s departure from Old Trafford, the 20-time English champions are looking for a new forward.
During Felix’s time at Benfica, the Red Devils were rumoured to be interested, but Atletico signed him in the summer of 2019 for over £113 million.
In 129 games for Atletico in all competitions, Felix has tallied 33 goals and 18 assists, but his relationship with the team’s head coach Simeone is the biggest issue.
The Portuguese have only been in the starting XI on three occasions in the team’s six games during the Champions League group stage, and he has only started five La Liga games this season.
