Manchester United are reportedly in line to make one last push this summer to sign long-standing target Frenkie de Jong from Barcelona with the United boss Ten Hag given fresh funds to bolster his ranks.
Eric ten Hag has been keen on moving in for his former Ajax starlet and reinforcing the midfield roster at Old Trafford by bringing in the highly-rated Holland international maestro.
De Jong, however, has appeared far from convinced about joining his suitors in the summer window with the Dutchman asserting his commitment to stay put with the Camp Nou fold despite Barcelona’s willingness to part ways and raise much-needed funds.
According to a claim from the journalist Marcel van der Kraan, United are set to step up their three-month-long pursuit of De Jong by trying their luck once again for landing the midfielder’s coveted signature in the hope that Barcelona pushes for the completion of the deal.
Chelsea are the other Premier League heavyweights expected to provide competition to United for De Jong’s services with the west London giants also credited with a strong interest in moving in for the Barcelona man.
