Manchester United to miss six players for season opener against Wolves

Manchester United are expected to have a shortage of six players as they face Wolverhampton Wanderers in their opening Premier League match on Monday.

The team will commence their season at Old Trafford, and in preparation for the game, Coach Erik ten Hag has shared information about the injuries affecting five players.

Tyrell Malacia has not participated in the pre-season due to an injury he suffered last season, and the manager has mentioned that his recovery will take a considerable amount of time.

The Dutch coach also informed that Amad Diallo and Kobbie Mainoo are currently dealing with injuries. Additionally, Dean Henderson and Rasmus Hojlund lack match fitness.

Alongside these five players, goalkeeper Tom Heaton is unavailable for a few weeks due to a calf injury, as confirmed by the club on Thursday.

The gaffer revealed while talking to the club’s official website:

“Malacia’s will take some time, the same as Amad and Kobbie, they are impact injuries. All the others, like Henderson, Hojlund are quite short notice but it will take a few weeks.”

Despite recent reports of a verbal agreement for the sale of Harry Maguire to West Ham United, Coach Ten Hag has stated that the former captain will still be included in the squad.

In the prior season, Man United faced a challenging beginning, suffering consecutive losses to Brighton & Hove Albion and Brentford, with the latter resulting in a 4-0 defeat.

However, the team staged an impressive comeback, ultimately securing a third-place finish in the league standings. Now, the focus is on starting the new season strongly to position themselves as contenders for the Premier League title.

Wolverhampton Wanderers are currently in a state of flux, having recently changed their manager. Ten Hag will be aiming for a robust performance from his squad as they welcome the Midlands team to Old Trafford.

Following the Wolves match, United’s schedule includes matches against Tottenham Hotspur, Nottingham Forest, and Arsenal before the first international break. They will then host Brighton & Hove Albion in mid-September.
