Manchester United are reportedly preparing a contract offer for highly-rated youngster Angel Gomes after reports emerged that he was targeted by La Liga champions Barcelona.
The England Under-20 star is thought to have stepped up contract talks after breaking into Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s first-team plans this term.
The 19-year-old made his first-team debut for the Red Devils in May 2017 and has since appeared on a further six occasions for the club
Gomes has played three times for United’s first team this season, opening his senior account against Astana in the Europa League.
He played 68 minutes in the 1-0 victory, before then coming off the bench against West Ham in the Premier League just three days later.
At the start of October, he completed his first 90 minutes in a Red Devils shirt, away at AZ Alkmaar in the Europa League group stages.
United have an impressive academy set-up, which has seen the likes of Marcus Rashford and Scott McTominay breakthrough to the first team of late.
Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been a big advocate of youth this season and has tried to integrate academy products like Mason Greenwood, Tahith Chong and Axel Tuanzebe in the first team.
There were reports last month that Manchester United was considering letting three of their brightest young prospects in Angel Gomes, Tahith Chong, and James Garner leave on loan in January.
Angel Gomes is still expected to leave on loan in January but United want to tie him up to a long term deal before letting him depart on loan.
