Manchester United to renew interest in signing Atletico Madrid defender Kieran Trippier

Manchester United will revisit their longstanding interest in signing Atletico Madrid’s English full-back Kieran Trippier in the January window after failing to land him this summer.

United were engaged in the chase for the former Tottenham Hotspur defender during this summer’s transfer window with the boss Ole Gunnar Solskajer keen on adding to his options at the back.

Atletico Madrid, however, remained firm on the pricing front with the La Liga champions seeking an offer that was equal to Trippier’s release clause of £34 million which put United off on the deal.

Reports from Spanish news outlet Mundo Deportivo have now suggested that Solskajer will go after Trippier once again when the transfer window reopens in January early next year as the United boss wants to sign the England international to provide some competition to the first-choice Aaron Wan-Bisaaka at Old Trafford.

Wan-Bisaaka is one of the best performers for the Red Devils on the defensive front but Solskajer is understood to be open to bolstering his full-back names after sanctioning the young Brandon Williams’ departure from the camp this summer.
