Manchester United trying to hijack Chelsea’s attempt to sign Lyon star Malo Gusto

According to the Metro, Manchester United have entered the race to sign Chelsea target Malo Gusto this summer.

The Blues have previously spoken to Lyon about a deal for the 19-year-old right-back, who is thought to be one of the upcoming rising talents in European football.

The west Londoners have reportedly reached an agreement with the defender, and they have also submitted an initial transfer offer to the French giants. However, it has now been reported that the Red Devils are also pondering a move for the attacking right back, who has been previously linked with the club last summer. The young defender has been urged by the team not to make a poor choice.

United have Diogo Dalot and Aaron Wan-Bissaka as their current right-back options. Before the World Cup break, Dalot was ever present in Erik ten Hag’s starting XI. However, Wan-Bissaka’s fortunes have completely changed after the World Cup. With Dalot struggling with an injury, the 25-year-old has cemented his place in the starting XI.

In spite of this, United might be considering replacing him. He had a poor game against Arsenal last weekend, as he was the culprit for allowing two goals.

The hierarchy may decide to invest in an upgrade as a result of these issues, and Gusto could be a smart addition for the Red Devils. The Lyon star is a right-back who prefers to play a more offensive style of football. He frequently makes overlapping runs and averages an outstanding 30 passes per game in the opponent’s half.

Additionally, he averages 1.5 key passes and two crosses per game. Gusto averages 2.1 successful tackles and nearly five duels won per game. Although he lacks aerial dominance, he more than makes up for it with his excellent work ethic and ability to hold onto the ball.

Lyon is now worried about losing Gusto this month, but given that his contract will expire in July, they may finally sell him. Chelsea must be outbid by United this summer. At United, he should have a greater chance of playing more frequently than at Chelsea, where he might not be able to replace Reece James.
