Manchester United unlikely to recall Amad Diallo from Sunderland

According to Fabrizio Romano, Manchester United is extremely unlikely to bring back Amad Diallo from his loan to Sunderland in January.

Sunderland defeated Wigan 4-1 to go up to fourth place in the Championship, and Amad scored his sixth goal in 18 appearances in the process. Additionally, it was a fantastic goal, possibly even better than the one he scored against Birmingham earlier in the season.

His overall play has been outstanding as well, with nearly every game he has played recently featuring a highlight reel from him.

Romano’s observation is consistent with what Tony Mowbray has recently said as well, namely that United will be more than happy to leave Amad where he is as long as he is playing frequently and progressing.

Amad is third in conversion rate at Sunderland and has the second-highest shooting accuracy. Seven goal contributions in 11 starts would be a more commendable statistic. Amad, a £37 million signing who was mostly ignored by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Ralf Rangnick, and Erik ten Hag, is still playing in the Championship, showing that United have not written him off.

Due to the overabundance of right-footed left-wingers at United, the front line remains unbalanced. With nine games possible in January, United could still feel that they can use Amad’s recall option.
