Manchester United Vs Aston Villa [2-2] – Manchester United Player Ratings

The red Devils were held in a 2-2 draw against newly-promoted Aston Villa as Tyrone Mings’ late strike ensured that a point was shared between the two teams.

David de Gea- 5

The Spanish goalkeeper was powerless to prevent Jack Grealish’s superb strike in the first half and Tyrone Mings’ volley went past him before he knew it in a mixed evening.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka-6

The English right-back did little of any effect in either third and once again looked particularly strange in the attacking positions in the first half. Much more adventurous in the second but unable to provide anything of substance.

Victor Lindelof-5

Lucky to still be considered a starter for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. The center-back was wasteful and weak in the first half but scored a well-taken header in the second which pretty much rescued his below-par performance.

Harry Maguire-5

The world’s most expensive defender was booked early on and it set the tone for a hesitant afternoon for the United captain but overall looked comfortable in possession.

Brandon Williams-4

He seemed a bit cowed by Villa’s dominance and could get going in neither attack nor defense.  The left-back then got booked in the second period and played Mings onside for Villa’s equalizer.

Andreas Pereira-3

The Brazilian was average again in the deep-lying midfield role unable to control things. Tried to unsettle Grealish by fouling him then let him inside to score the opening goal but provided a lovely cross for the equalizer.

Fred-5

The adventurous midfielder showed quick-thinking for the corner United leveled from but, again, looked forlorn with Pereira as his midfield partner. Got on the ball a lot but was not effective when he needed to be.

Daniel James

Showed flashes of brilliance but his performance dipped with the team’s and Solskjaer had him switch wings with English striker Marcus Rashford later on in the game.

Juan Mata-4

Ineffectual on his recall to the starting eleven and how United fans must be glad that he was the first to be substituted.  The Spanish playmaker was absolutely useless and unable to neither keep up with Villa’s attacking prowess nor help United in the last third.

Marcus Rashford-5

Had he maintained composure at 0-0 United would probably have taken the lead and earned all three points. Lucky to force the equalizer, having missed the target and Tom Heaton’s own goal helped the United side back in the game in the first half.

Anthony Martial-5

The French winger was an anonymous figurehead at times. Had a tame effort at Tom Heaton and picked up the pace a bit after the half time whistle. Dormant for the majority of spells in the game and was substituted as well.
