Manchester United started on the front foot against Fulham, last night. The hosts played high on the field from the word go and Fulham’s meek defence could not last for more than 13 minutes, succumbing to a screamer from Ashley Young. A rampant first-half performance was up and waiting, and so it was.
A fine goal from Ashley Young was followed by a left-footed sweep from Juan Mata and a tap-in from Romelu Lukaku. Ashley Young returned to the team in an impressive fashion scoring from an acute angle into the top right corner. The goal aroused a sense of confidence in the team which started to play and pushes forward, faster.
It took only 13 minutes for Juan Mata to double the lead from an assist of Rashford who ran through the defence towards the baseline only to pass it back behind penalty spot for Juan to shoot in the bottom corner.
And further 13 minutes later, it was Mata with an assist to Romelu Lukaku who was already standing near the goal to tap in and end his Old Trafford goal drought. At the break, Fulham were seen with their heads dropped as if they were wanting for second half not to start.
The second half started in a mediocre fashion with teams dominating in the midfield before Fulham got lucky and were awarded a penalty off Herrera’s debatable foul. This was the only way they could have scored with Kamara calmly getting the ball into the nets.
Rashford’s persistent attempts of long-range shots finally paid off from the left corner of the box that made it 4 for United and sealed a victory of wonderfully crafted goals.
The fans were happy and so was the team.
